Hello all,

I've been attempting to gain a better understanding of the Pictor series =
of cameras in preparation for an eventual purchase to be used on an =
LX200. Unfortunately, my remote location on the planet necessitates =
almost exclusive use of the internet for the research. I'm particularly =
interested in the strengths and weaknesses of the various models =
EXCLUDING the obvious chip size and resolution differences. I've arrived =
at a bit of a summary regarding these 'non-imaging' issues, and would =
appreciate some confirmation that I'm on the right track, or some =
guidance if I'm completely off it ! Please note that this only pertains =
to the basic use of these cameras with an LX200

The 201 is an autoguider only - with no PC interface (ie, just a =
standalone guider).
The 208 uses the same chip as the 201, but can do basic (8 bit) imaging, =
is cooled, has a round body, and can be connected to a PC for =
autoguiding or be used as a standalone guider (ie, no PC).
The 216 uses the same chip as the 208, but is 16 bit, and can use the =
optional colour filter wheel. It also can be connected to a PC for =
autoguiding or used as a stand alone guider.
The 416 has a bigger chip (758 x 512), includes a control box that sits =
between the computer and the telescope/CCD, cannot be used as a =
standalone guider, is not really designed to be used as a PC controlled =
autoguider (according to a rather obscure description in the on-line =
manual), but does include the 201 camera to perform the autoguiding =
function.
The 1616 is the same as the 416, but with an even bigger chip, and is =
way out of my price range.
The 616 colour wheel can be used on the 216, 416, and 1616.

My main observation is that the 416 and 1616 can't be used as =
autoguiders ? Is this right ? It would make sense given that both =
camera packages include the 201. It seems a shame, though, that the =
extra sensitivity of these two cameras can't be exploited when =
autoguiding film photography (ie, it seems a shame to HAVE to use the =
201, if you own a 416. Again, I'm basing this observation on this quote =
from the online manual:
"5. Note: The 416XT and 1616XT are not intended to be used as =
computer-controlled autoguiders."

If anything else is obviously wrong with my basic understanding of these =
camera packages, feel free to correct me.

Thanks.
