While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi all,

I just packed my 10" LX200 as best I could, observed a moment of silence and
sent it off to the Meade factory for the $500 repair. I'll have my fingers
crossed for the next 6 weeks. In packing, I remembered to use the bolt to
support the mirror and released the DEC lock, then I placed the scope in the
foam fitted hard case (remember them?) and into the double cardboard
container that it came in. I was really surprised to learn that the package
weighed 97 pounds.

The scope had a few problems (including electronic problems) that I couldn't
repair myself, so I thought it best to send it to the "experts." I am now
experiencing LX200 withdrawal symptoms and, of course, the weather turned
very nice.

I'm wondering if any of you ever sent your LX200 back to Meade for the $500
treatment? If you have, were you happy with the repair results? Any
problems with damage in transit? Please be kind in your response.:-)

Al
