While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

My 20 year old 2080 has bad image shift during focus reversal of about 5
arcmins, and I want to apply grease to the baffle tube to reduce this. There
is absolutely no trace of grease in the scope and I presume Meade did not
use grease on their earliest SCTs.
But in order to apply grease thoroughly I need to remove the mirror tube -
which I cannot. The baffle tube retaining ring and focus assembly have been
removed and the mirror slides forward until it comes to a definite stop.
While there is a very slight burr at the retaining ring groove on the baffle
tube, this should not be this cause as the mirror tube slides over this
before being snagged with only about an inch to go.
Any suggestions welcomed.
