While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Greetings,

Firstly, thanks to all who have induldged my CCD questions over the past =
couple of days.

I'm still trying to nut out the CCD / Telescope / Computer issues for =
the Meade 416XTE and have come across an interesting observation. =
According to the on-line manual at Meade.com, the "black phone type =
cable" connects the "LX200" port on the control box to the "RS-232" =
socket on the LX200. This would mean that the RS-232 port on the =
telescope is not available for a serial connection from a computer for =
running, say, TheSky. According to Bill Nicoll (who runs this system) =
the cable between the control box and the RS-232 port on the telescope =
is not required (ie, he plugs his computer into the RS-232 port on the =
LX200 for computer control, and has the control box connected to his =
comupter via SCSI). Can someone explain to me what is going on here ? =
What is the control box / LX200 cable for ? I thought it might be for =
autoguiding, but surely that is what the CCD socket on the LX200 is for =
- and hence use of the 210XT et. al.

In short, what is this mystery link (ie, the black cable that connects =
the LX200 RS-232 port to the control box) used for (if anything) ?
