Wayne,

Sorry to hear about the dust cover problems, and good luck getting any=20
high-level response from Meade. Anyone on the list giving odds of a=20
response, much less the desired one ("Sorry for your trouble, here's the=20
email address for everyone to request their free LX200-type cap")

I guess you have a better chance of a good result than an LX10 or LX50 group=
=20
would at getting them to deliver whatever the ad hype said about=20
astrophotography on those platforms.

I'll forward your message to the list this time, but in the future would=20
suggest that you join MAPUG (if you don't already belong) and post any=20
relevant messages like this one yourself.

We'll need to be careful about the amount of cross-posting, lest your list=20
begin to resemble a subset of MAPUG or vice versa. ;-) But seriously, I'=
d=20
prefer to see things not be directly cross-posted, although if you or other=20
members of your list want to belong to both lists and post appropriately to=20
each, that would be fine.=20

Certainly we'd be interested in hearing the conclusions to any LX90 issues=20
which get resolved on your list, or receive questions about any issues which=
=20
don't, so we can take a crack at them.

Regarding the link, Ed and I will figure something out. It sounds like your=
=20
group either is or might become as useful as Weasner's site is for the ETX,=20
so perhaps a prominent link is in order. We'll check it out along with the=20
other upcoming changes on our plate.

Separate issue: have you heard that Meade is offering a complete set of Supe=
r=20
Plossls with the purchase of an LX200 now for the next 3 months? I bet that=
=20
will bite into LX90 sales for a while, expecially with some dealers offering=
=20
to take the set of Plossls in exchange for $600 worth of other (Meade?)=20
accessories after you get them directly from Meade through the special offer=
!=20
Even my most elitist refractor friends are phoning me about to ask for=20
advice about which LX200 to roll the dice on. I'll start a separate thread o=
n=20
the "special offer", so anyone wanting to reply to that, please don't do so=20
on this "LX90 dust cover" thread.

Thanks,

John
MAPUG List Administrator

We'd be happy to discuss some mutual link arrangement, provided it fits our=20
normal policies on non-commercialization, etc. Our own site will be evolvin=
g=20
to include a commercial side

RE: Meade LX90 Dust Cover Complaint & Group request for replacement
=20
Dear Mr. Diebel,
=20
On behalf of IMLTUG, the International Meade LX90 Telescope Users Group, no=
w
representing a growing membership of over 450 current and prospective LX90
Owners and other telescope enthusiasts worldwide, I would like to thank you
for bringing us the LX90.
=20
Our group shares information about the LX90 and amateur astronomy over the
Internet, currently locating our archives and mailing list at:
http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/lx90
=20
It has come to our attention that the majority of our members find the
plastic =E2=80=9CDust Cover=E2=80=9D engineered and delivered for the LX90=20=
unacceptable for
an instrument of this calibre. We believe that its design and quality is
inferior and would like your serious consideration of a better replacement.
Many of our members are early adopters of your new telescope who have
invested in its purchase =E2=80=9Csight unseen.=E2=80=9D Early releases of=
the press
materials and your own manual have led several of us to believe that a
different aluminum cover solution was to be provided (i.e. pictures in the
manual and brochures stating that the OTA for the LX90 was identical to the
LX200).
=20
Many of our members received LX90=E2=80=99s whose Dust Cover was not assemb=
led
properly at your factory. Many members continue to report that the Dust
Cover supplied became dislodged during transportation from the warehouse
and, in a number of cases, the Corrector Lens was scratched and damaged.
=20
Members who have contacted Meade have been sent replacement felt pads by
mail to install. Even with these applied the user group has found, in many
cases, that the cover can still easily become dislodged or fall out on its
own weight. This is particularly true if the temperature is cold. In a
cold environment, we are also concerned that a plastic dust cover could
unexpectedly dislodge and the plastic may crack or shatter on impact with a
hard surface.
=20
You must understand that our expectation of Meade is to produce high
quality, accurate and long lasting astronomical instruments. This is one of
the main reasons for our continued patronage. The majority of group
members, many of whom have owned several Meade instruments and accessories,
feel that the supplied Dust Cover is ineffective and request a replacement
Dust Cover made of an impact resistant aluminum construction that is the
industry standard for such a protective component.
=20
Please respond and indicate to our membership, your loyal customers, how
Meade intends to deal with our request. We do appreciate the magnitude of
our request from your perspective, but as an organized group we do feel tha=
t
our issue is of value and merits your serious consideration.

Sincerely,

RE: Meade LX90 Dust Cover Complaint & Group request for replacement

Dear Mr. Diebel,

On behalf of IMLTUG, the International Meade LX90 Telescope Users Group, now
representing a growing membership of over 450 current and prospective LX90
Owners and other telescope enthusiasts worldwide, I would like to thank you
for bringing us the LX90.

Our group shares information about the LX90 and amateur astronomy over the
Internet, currently locating our archives and mailing list at:
http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/lx90

It has come to our attention that the majority of our members find the
plastic “Dust Cover” engineered and delivered for the LX90 unacceptable for
an instrument of this calibre. We believe that its design and quality is
inferior and would like your serious consideration of a better replacement.
Many of our members are early adopters of your new telescope who have
invested in its purchase “sight unseen.” Early releases of the press
materials and your own manual have led several of us to believe that a
different aluminum cover solution was to be provided (i.e. pictures in the
