While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Batteries!

I've gone through 2 sets already since November. I'm now corded myself.
Can't see to adding more cost to the illuminator. I converted the cordless
into a corded
and am very happy.

my 2 cents

When you add up all the cords hanging off the back of your telescope
during a CCD session, one less cord is appreciated. Moreover, a
self-contained power source appears to be more reliable than another cord
plugged into your console.

I too am planning to get an illuminated reticle eyepiece, but I plan
to use it for imaging as well as for precise alignment of stars. I am
curious why you recommend the cordless model, specifically. I assumed that
the corded model would be more reliable running off of the control panel
power, as well as having the ability to control the brightness and pulsing
from the hand controller. Does the cord become a problem while slewing
around the sky?

If you're not going to use the ep for guiding, the least expensive one
should be good enough. IMO, the important feature in an illuminated reticle
is that it should be cordless. If you can afford this feature, get it.

I am going to purchase an illuminated reticle for the purpose of
more accurately aligning the scope during the alignment process. I have
reviewed both of Meade's and can't decide between the 12mm MA and the 9mm
super plossl. I don't plan on doing any photography of any sorts. Either
would probably serve the purpose well. I was just wondering if the 9mm with
its micrometer adjustments was worth the extra cost. Is the 12mm MA, even
though lesser quality, an eye piece that would allow for quite accurate star
alignments?

Thanks,
Rick Wisniewski, Vancouver, WA
(where we've not had a decent nights viewing for about 2 months
now!)
