While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hello all,

A brief report on my opinions of the above units.

1. Good news for Meade. I retired the ST-4 I'd been
working with. The 201 is out of the closet in more
ways than one. The ST WILL guide on fainter stars, but
at the expense of more set up time, more components to
deal with in the dark. The input data has to be
re-entered at each power up. This is NOT the case with
the 201. I now believe that, price difference in mind,
the 201 is the equal of the ballyhooed ST-4. It's
easier to set-up, retains its settings night to night,
it's lighter where we need less weight, and only has
one button to push. IMHO, these are tremendous
advantages, having used both.

2. JMI's NGF-S. This unit may be more useful to me at
a later date. After a 6 month trial, I now think I
will remove it from my optical train. It adds weight,
and focal length where I don't want it. I'm going back
to manual focusing. It does work as advertized, so I'm
going to keep it around.

3. The Taurus. Now here is an indispensable piece of
equipment. Get rid of your basic OAG's and replace
them with the Taurus. I've posted on this one before
so I'll just say that the combo of the 201 and Taurus
is fantastic.

Anyone interested in the ST-4, with the LX200 cable,
It's in a shoebox at the back of my closet.
