While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi,
I have been having a peculiar problem with my 10" LX200 for a while and at
first I thought that I am doing something wrong but now I'm a little
concerned.
My setup is the plainjane LX200 and hence I am using the scope in ALTAZ. I
fed in the location and Time and fed in the GMT offset as 5 hrs.
I did the 2 star alignment on Arcturus and Alkaid. Everytime I ask it to
GOTO a particular object it goes close to it but is off by at least 5-6
degrees in Dec. and 10 minutes in RA.
The Dec. lock is very effective with absolutely no play. The only problem
I face, and I wrote to the list before with no reply, is that in RA when
the lock is engaged, the scope can still go halfway between 0 and the
first small division which I think is approx 2.5 minutes. I am curious as
to if this kind of play is normal.
If anyone has any idea as to why my scope refuses to center anything
including Polaris,I would be grateful. For whatever diagnostic purpose it
might serve : I am at 40deg51' lat and 117deg28'long by precision GPS
measurement and in the Eastern Daylight Timezone.
Thanks,
Adi
