While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Sorry for the confusion. My first post was incorrect due to not looking at
the table in the manual carefully. I read the Atlantic zone, +3 instead of
the Eastern zone, +4. The correct offset for Eastern time zone during
daylight savings time is +4. The scope wants to know actual GMT and since
the Eastern zone EDT is -4 hours from GMT you have to add 4 hours in the
offset so the scope can compute actual GMT. You can get the same result by
entering actual GMT in the time slot and using 0 for the GMT offset.

No! The manual says EST is plus 5 (+5), EDT is plus 4 (+4)

See the archives for extensive discussion of the plus/minus question.
Plus 4 is correct for EDT.
