Just curious, why would you bother to mount a computer driven scope such as
an LX200 or a Nexstar on a wedge if you were only going to do visual
observing?? Either scope is "much" more stable and accurate in GOTO in the
alt-az mode. Now if you were going to do photography of imaging, then I
understand. Am I missing something?

I also have an 8" LX200 on a wedge. Once the scope is set up and leveled, I
can get a pretty good polar alignment in a few minutes. It will help your
accuracy if you use a crosshair eyepiece. It will also make alignment easier
if you defocus your stars when you try to center them. You can do a real
quick polar alignment good enough that when you use the GOTO command to find
objects, they will consistently in the field of the field of view and will
track well. It has been my experience that a rough polar alignment good
enough for visual observing can be done in only a little more time than a
two star alt/az alignment.
