The common consensus is that levelling is less important than precise
centring of the alignment stars. Using a high power or preferably a reticle
eyepiece will ensure this. Levelling - while less important, is not that
difficult - and shouldn't take more than a minute or so. Of course, a stable
platform - ie, solid ground - is also useful.
