Thanks for the replies and suggestions so far on the Aluminium chips in the
tube problem. I actually have already taken care of the problem, amazing
what looking at a problem at 6 AM does to clear up what seems to be an issue
at 2 AM...lol.
After looking at the scope closer I decided that removing the corrector
probably was not a good idea. Then the responses confirmed that for me...in
no uncertain terms!
I took a long thin tube, kind of like what would be used for spot
aplications of WD-40 but longer. I removed a couple of mounting screws
around the scope (hey, I needed to anyway to mount the Losmandy stuff)
applied vacume to one end of the tube, and reached in and picked each chip
up. Worked great!
I guess these kind of chips are a fairly common issue? After extraction I
inspected them, and they look like they may be the result of factory
threading of the mounting holes at each end of the tube. Seems a bit wrong
to me, to thread those holes with the optics in place and sealed up.
