Hi All,
I am considering a design project.
Suppose I make a replacement motherboard for the LX200
that supports the AutoStar (similar to the LX-90).
My guess is that it is unlikely that Meade will make this "upgrade",
and they are not likely to provide information to help us.
I guess that the LX-90 line will grow in size (diameter).
But, I have been wrong before ... right, it was the time that I thought I
was wrong, but I wasn't. :) Actually, my wife informs me that
I am frequently misguided, deluded, forgetful, ... you get the idea.
Without sufficient technical information, it might be very
difficult to discover what to implement.
Maybe others have already considered this and rejected it
for good reasons. If so, please educate me.
Assuming one did not lose the Periodic Error correction feature:
1. Would this significantly "extend" the life of the LX200 series?
2. What would be the Pros and Cons?
3. Is there enough expertise in our group about the workings of
the AutoStar as to how it interfaces to the "motor drivers" inside the scope?
The ETX-125 or 90 and the LX-90 serve as examples.
Does anybody have a "junk" scope that we could use for dissection and testing?
What documentation is available on the "guts" of these scopes?
How about a "junk" LX200 that we could use for testing?
Broken lenses or correctors would not be a problem, since it is the
interface to the and motor drivers (and limit switches, if any) that
we would need to "decode".
I can do the hardware design and code any firmware needed, but
at this point I do not have any good information on the interface.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks, Gary Giddings
