While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Is Doc a master of understatement, or am I dense.
(not that the two are mutually exclusive, I suppose)

Add resistors to prevent DEC blow-ups, and the number of
DEC blow-ups goes down. I guess the answer to the original
question is that, yes, Meade addressed the problem. It might
seem that a half-cent resistor couldn't possibly fix the problem,
but a plain rubber o-ring would have saved the Challenger.
Let's give credit where it's due. It's nice to see an elegantly
cheap fix for what was probably a baffling problem (and an
expensive one, given that most of the failures probably
happened during warranty when new owners were most
likely to drive the ends of their OTAs into the fork base
and burn out the motor)(if personal experience serves me ;-)
I don't have the resistors on my vintage lx200, but my
memory of killing the DEC on the the forks is a good
deterrent to repeating the event (so far!).
