Rainy in Seattle so I decided to make a wedge for my 10in lx200. Go it
done for about $75.
So I decide to practice a polar alignment in the living room I allow
the directions in 'THE BOOK' Its raining but I know the house in
oriented North and South so I align the wedge pointing north. Make the
RA registry marks align to 00
Make the Dec 90 deg. This has the forks level and the OTA pointing
straight out from the forks with the finder on the bottom to where I
know Polaris is 'close at least for living room practice :).
Turn on the scope and do a polar alignment. It says do the 00 and
90degree thing and press enter Then it moves a couple of degrees to
where it thinks polaris at (89.9 or whatever) which I think is
reasonable
It says make any adjustments to center polaris which I know I am close
so I press enter.
it then slews to Diphda This is where it is crazy because Cetus is
below the southern horizon. Again it says make any adjustments and
press Enter. I press enter
Then enter to goto Vega. It goes to Vega but is about 90 deg to far
west. It appears to be about correct for the north position.
What am I misreading or don't under stand.
I have +47.32 lat and 122..10 long. for Seattle. I have the correct
time and correct offset from GMT of +7
I have done this a couple of times and depending on the time the star
it goes to after Polaris is always below the horizon in the South.
Thanks for any help. I'm sure its something stupid I am misreading.
