Just to let everyone know, I just purchased an 8" LX-200 from Mt. Pocono Optics
three weeks ago and sent out the required information to Meade for the promotional
EP offer right away. Just this week (May 4, 2001) two weeks later, I've received
my new EP's from Meade. Meade is the one sending out the EP's from their location
in California, not sending your to the retail stores to pick them up. The stores
have nothing to do with the promotion. However, the stores I've spoken to have
all related the same basic story, most have stated their willingness to offer
a store credit if the person wishes to not use a particular EP received from
Meade. Even if a particular store won't give store credit, the person could
still sell the EP on the open market for a nice profit considering it was free
in the first place. It is also my understanding that this offer is to help bolster
slumping sales of the LX-200 in light of the cheaper LX-90 being a popular seller.
I'm sure there's more to it than this, but nevertheless, I'm just happy that
the fine folks at MT. Pocono went out of their way to alert me to this offer
before I was even out the door with the new scope.
