While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

After reading some of the posts regarding the "revised" dec bearing, I
wanted to determine if my scope had been part of this revision. Is there
an easy way of determining what kind of bearings are present without having
to dismantle the scope? Is the amount of friction in the dec axis that
obvious that you can tell by moving the ota by hand? I know that when I
have mine balanced and have the dec unlocked, that a gentle hand push on
the tube causes the ota to oscillate about 6-8 times until it settles.

On another subject, my VW has what are called daytime running lights
(DRLs). The comparable European model does not, so you can buy a European
headlight switch that comes with some metal bridges which are inserted into
the relay panel in the car and disables the DRLs. There may be comparable
pieces for other makes of cars which are also sold in the European
markets. If anyone has a VW and wants more info, I'd be glad to send them
the information privately.

Thanks,

-Jim McKay
