While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

I too take the finder off after each observing session. When I reattach the
finder, I always apply pressure from the front of the bracket, then tighten
the rear screw, then tighten the front screw. By being consistent in how I
attach the finder, the alignment stays very close from session to session
and I don't often have to adjust the alignment.
BTW, I also use, and highly recommend a Telrad, but the finder is invaluable
when trying to find objects like Jupiter or Saturn during the day.

No I just loosen the 2 plastic set screws and slide the finder out of the
dovetail mount attached to the OTA. Problem is it wont re-locate exactly
and the alignment is always off. The dovetail in the fixed half of the
mount that is attached to the OTA does not mate consistently with the other
half on the finder and the locking screws do not go into the slot provided
all due to sloppy mfg tolerances. As noted in original post I am familiar
with detachable rifle scope mounts that will permit me to consistently hit a
dime at a 100yds after removing and replacing the scope over and over.
Hoping to find a better mount but several folks have strongly recommened a
Telrad so I will try that and also try drilling a detent for the plastic
screws so they lock up more consistently.

Are you taking the dovetail mount off?
