Hi Martin,
The control panel should be facing toward North. The telescope would be facing South. To make it easier, place the scope so it if pointing South and as you are looking at it, the control panel will be toward you and North will be to your back.

north, not magnetic north it is rather confusing.

Does it mean that the power/control panel is on the north or the south
side of the telescope.
