While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Greetings:

I ordered a DEC replacement cable from DigiKey as suggested
here on the list a few weeks ago.

Does this cable have to be modified in any way to make it
work (if anybody else has used it, that is)? I tried it the
other night and got some strange results:

(1) While slewing to the moon, and raising in altitude, the
tube got to a certain point and would go no further.

(2) It then moved down, despite the fact that I was
pressing the "N" key.

I tried swapping the cable end-for-end, and while that
stopped the south moves, it would only go so high "north"
and no higher.

I then tried turning the power off and on. No luck. I then
turned the power off, put the old cable back, and used the
scope with the old cable. I did not do any "gotos" that
night (I was only looking at the moon), so I'm not sure if
my previous goto/DEC/sporadic runaway problem is still
around...

Thanks for any advice,

Fred Kiesche
(the ever-befuddled)
