While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I have a 12" LX200 and every time I use it I have to carry it down, together
with the giant tripod and equitorial wedge, from the spare bedroom and
set it up in the garden. All by myself. ( My sport is powerlifting and I am
the 1989 British 12Kg Champion. )
However it is pure hell. Having the scope dangle by a half inserted stud at
the top on the wedge makes me see images
of the scope crashing to the floor with glass everywhere.

Then I spend 30 minutes setting it up. Sky nice and clear... Then when it
gets dark, cloud cover...

I have now just ordered an 8 foot dome. Enough is enough.

Love my 12" scope. But if you are coming from an 8 " you will roll out a 12"
from the garage it is not something you just carry around. I had a neighbor
make me a portable pier. Until then I had built the "sled" which was real
easy and made moving the scope around a breeze
