Tonight I was moving from Altair to M51 with a GOTO, when about 2/3 of
the way to M51 the RA started to shudder and then sort of backed up
and stopped. I tried slewing in that direction and it seemed OK, so I
found Altair and re-synched. I then tried the Altair/M51 GOTO and got
the same thing. I positioned the scope to the meridian and an
elevation of 45 degrees via the motion controls and powered off the
scope. I opened the front panel and looked around inside, but couldn't
see much in the dark. The RA assembly seemed to be in place. I
couldn't see the two hex bolts that held it in place, so I gave up for
the night.
About two weeks ago, I took the RA section completely apart to clean
the worm wheel and gear. My suspicions are that one of the two hex
bolts loosened or that my grease job was in adequate. Any comments?
