While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

Probably has something to do with the fact that the letters are not
internally lit and are being looked at with the naked eye don't you think?
The real question is--how intense does a red light have to be vs using a
green light to read the chart? As I understand your position, it doesn't
matter how bright the light is; as long as it is red, your night vision will
not be affected. That position I think is incorrect.
