While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I read a thread that said that Bob's Collimation knobs worked well, so I
order them.
I read the instructions twice (being a computer consultant I have learned to
actually read instructions first), to make sure I did the assembly
correctly. I know it is always the simplest of things that turn out to be
complicated.
I tilted the OTA slightly down as specified, loosened the current alan-head
bolts until there was no tension. I replaced the bottom two with no problem
with the knobs and washers.
Before removing the upper one, I rotated the OTA in the fork so the upper
bolt was the lower one, with the OTA pointed slightly down.
I removed the last one, and tried to insert the new knob. Unlike the other
two that threaded before fully inserted in the hole, this one went all the
way in the hole without ever contacting the sleeve, or at least that is how
it feels. I don't feel any pressure on the know. I examined the bolt I had
just removed and saw nothing unusual. I then tighted the two on the
telescope and backed them out until there was no tension. Still no "bite".
I tried to insert the orginal, no "bite". However I did note that the screw
popped out and the in as I turned clockwise, almost like when I turn a fine
threaded bolt counter-clockwise to get the engagement point. I have looked
into the hole and it is there and seems aligned, but it is like the bolts
and knobs are now not long enough. Any Ideas??
