Subject: JMI focuser helps for shift?
Stephano-
You have already received more than enough comment and advice but I will
add my view for what it's worth.
I have a JMI NGF-S with DRO, a Meade electric focuser and (just now) a
Robofocus-3 by Tech. Innovations. I have used them all and I can testify
that the Robofocus is by far the best! I am selling the Meade and
keeping the JMI because it is a great focuser especially for fine
focusing.
What makes the Robofocus the best is that (1) it has automatic backlash
correction, and (2) automatic focus control for temperature changes. It
also has absolute location control and readout. I am using it on the
scope focus knob but it can also be used with the JMI. In fairness, I
should also say that the Robofocus is more expensive than the other two.
(CCDSoft) and new free ware called HFR Focus (will be supported in the
new version of MaximDL). There is also FocusAide in the wings, For me,
remote auto focusing is necessary because my small observatory is some
distance from my home computer.
Hope this is of some help.
Charles
