While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I have been amazed at the ability of the STV but after
a few nights with it and the LX200 I have to decided
that the LX is one P.O.S. albeit a very economical one
so I guess I 'm stuck with it awhile longer. <G>
First of all I noticed the infamous dec drive issues
that were easier to resolve with a B.A.D.
http://home.pacbell.net/twerick/blockdev.htm than try
to sort out. Before adding the dec block switch my
average dec errors were in the range of 3.5" and now
are 0.5-8"
WHile the Dec axis seems manageable now I have also
noted several errors in the RA drive that are not
periodic. These seem to swamp the STV at times as I
cannot always maintain a short update time to the
mount. With a PEC programmed by the STV using 0.3sec
exposures I got an average X axis error between 0.8
and 1.2 arc secs however a few 2 to 3" spikes still
persist. The STV seems to overpower the LX- The
aggressiveness neeeds to be turned way down.
Before the STV I had good results using an ETX
piggybacked and a modified QC for guiding. I thouht
the STV would simply manhandle the LX mount but was in
for a shock. Anyone out here using one to autoguide
with please contact me.
