While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Before doing this I would call your local utility company and get a price
to run service out to your observatory. It most locations the cost is often
not much more than what the material costs alone. Just make sure the place
the pole far enough away that it doesn't block your view. You'll still need
to provide a panel and run power from the pole to the obs. building.
