While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi all,
I am finally ready to do a DEC bearing mod to my 12" LX200.
I just cannot stand the friction and the poor balance any longer.
The accuracy had usually been good, but has been trailing off over time.
The DEC motors are starting to whine a little different too.
After two years, it's time.

I have advance ordered two (2) LX200 DEC modification sets of McMaster-Carr
Bearing sets and the hardened steel cages along with 10 thrust washers.
This is per the March 2000 addendum which I read and feel I understand from
the DEC mod pages at:
http://www.mapug.com/ragreiner/decfixmajor.html#Top

I am looking for a local partner to do the mod with. I feel I am fully
hardware rated and feel I
can do this, but would like someone else to work with. It just seems to go
easier with a team!
I have not secured the boring shop yet, but that should not be a problem in
"Mo Town USA" If you have any interest, please contact me at

I am in South East Michigan. (Brownstown...It's between Dearborn and
Flatrock) and recently remembered
a post about some Seattle folks banding together for a DEC bearing mod
party...(So to speak <g>) Hence this note.

If multiple members reply, I'll try to coordinate a solution for all of us.

Thanks
JJ
