While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Herb, it could be a few things. If you had the star focussed with
Meade's 9mm illuminated reticle (which is parfocal), then maybe your
crosshairs need to be adjusted because they might not be showing what
the CCD sees as centered. Another thing might be this- is the 201XT
nosepiece fully inserted? There is a little notch on the nosepiece that
can catch on the eyepiece locking thumbscrew, preventing it from being
fully inserted. Yet another thing could be your exposure settings.
Meades default setting is 2 seconds I believe, which should be long
enough for Polaris to show up brighter. However if you changed the
exposure time (Et on the display), maybe you cut it down too short.

If you've already checked these things, then try tapping the keypad in
various directions until the star shows up on the CCD chip, but make
sure to let it go through a couple of 'Br At' cycles before hitting the
keypad again. When you find the star, center it, then reinsert your 9mm,
and adjust the crosshairs accordingly.

Hope this helps.
I do have some helpful information on using the 201XT on my webpage.
Goto the section that says '201XT Helper Chart'.

Hope this helps :)
