While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I just received my Magellan II Telescope Computer System from Pocono
Mountain Optics.
Upon installation of the DEC Encoder Assembly I noticed the axle of the
motor portion of the
assembly was not freely turning. Upon closer examination, I found that the
metallic ring
the axle rod passes through was aslo turning with the axle rod.
The entire motor unit acted like its bearings were "dried-up". When I
manually turned the
axle rod there were rubbing sounds originating from the inside of the DEC
Encoder Assembly.
Has anyone else ever ran into this problem either over time or straight out
of the box like mine?
Needless to say I am returning the motor portion to Pocono and expecting
them to immediately
replace that portion of the system. When paying $500 for something I
would expect to at least
get it up and running before it starts to have problems!!
