We had a little discussion a while back about what an LX200 does in Land
mode. Someone claimed that it keeps track of the sky even in land mode. I
expressed some doubt about that. Well, it's crow eat'in time....
Last Saturday night was a pretty crappy night for observing but it was the
first night out with my LX200 since January. I did the usual 2-star altaz
alignment and everything worked as usual. Since it wasn't worth doing any
serious observing, I decided to do a little test. I had the scope on
Epsilon Lyrae (which looked like two blobs :-( . I changed to Land mode
and sat down for a chat. After a half hour or so, I switched back to Altaz
mode and GOTOed M57. And sure enough, there it was within the normal
slewing error I've come to expect (10 or 20 minutes). Certainly much
closer than it would have been had it not kept track of the sky's rotation.
