While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Hi all,

I have just about finished digging the hole for the foundation for my new
permanent pier .... to replace my old "tree stump" pier .... and should soon
be pouring the concrete.

My question, to all that have mounted a Super Wedge on a cement pier is, how
did you prepare the top of the pier to accept the wedge? I see that I could
simply have four threaded rods in the top of the pier, to slide into the four
holes on the wedge, but I doubt the cement would be a nice smooth, flat
surface on which to rotate the wedge.

A metal plate, perhaps? Mounted to the rods in the pier, with the wedge riding
on the plate? And what about that necessary hole for the stud that anchors the
unit for R.A. adjustment? A sleeve of the same size, down into the concrete?
Hmmm. doesn't seem to be too practical.

I realize that this is no doubt a "basic" question to all that have already
solved the problems, but since I only get ONE chance at doing this thing
right, I figured I should check with the experts that have done it already.
No sense in reinventing the wheel... or messing the whole thing up! <g>

Any input would be appreciated. Once this one is solved, on to the roll-off
roof observatory!

Thanks in advance, guys/gals.
