I agree. Most of this discussion is a little naive, imho. Meade is a public
company with pressure to maximize short-term profits. That is not good or
bad, it is simply the way it is. Meade's LX-200 competition is the high-end
Celestron SCT. Celestron has had its troubles in the past--do you know
anything about the "Ultima"? If their new 11" Nexstar 11 GPS proves to be a
workable, reliable alternative to the LX-200, watch the improvements come
real fast! This Celestron scope alone has driven the recent Meade LX-200
price reductions. And Meade has, of course, recently replaced some key
plastic DEC bearings with metal. Meade is not stupid--it is run by a guy
with a doctorate in physics. Just hope Celestron hasn't stumbled with its
new top of the line SCT and that Meade now has some real completion at this
LX-200 price break !! :) Same economics works in cars, computers, etc,
etc.
