Celestial Star MapsI use an excellent field guide called the "National =
Audubon Society Field Guide to the Night Sky" its is slightly larger =
than your checkbook, but an inch and a half thick and packed with star =
charts, color plates, constellation origins, orbital mechanics, Eclipse =
predictions to 2010, Planetary empherisis, Lunar maps, The Messier =
catalogue and a ton of other interesting info for beginner and advanced =
observers. Highly recommended!

Subject: [M]: Celestial Star Maps
I hate to pull everyone from this thrilling discussion about how =
upset/not upset people are with Meade for somehow not letting us know =
that they were coming out with this price cut in advance of buying our =
own(I'm happy with my "Toyota" and oh...my Tacoma as well), but I have a =
question about star charts and maps. Actually, TWO questions!
Question One: Does anyone know where I could look to purchase either =
high quality prints(talking museum quality here), or original celestial =
maps(Around 100-200 years old) with the design work similar to =
Hevelius's "Firmamentum Sobiescianum sive Uranographia" and Bayer's =
"Uranometria"? My wife, while reading a picture book of constellations =
and seeing some engravings in it, told me she wouldn't mind having =
either a full celestial map, or several individual constellation =
engravings. After picking my jaw off the floor from amazement, I told =
her I would look into it, but had no idea where to start, other than =
eBay which really doesn't have anything...
Question Two: What is a good star chart to use to relearn the =
constellations? I just got the book Nightwatch, and love it though we =
haven't really had clear skies since I got it, but I'm looking for =
something that would fit into a lightbox tray that is slightly smaller =
than 8x10. Has anyone heard of star charts being made on "flash card" =
or 3x5 size, with print only on one side? Should I just look into =
making my own?
Okay, I think that's enough... :))=20
