While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
I've been considering for some time using a ScopeSaver or Peterson Mounting
Assitant like device atop the Giant Field Tripod of my 12" LX200.
As the ScopeSaver extends well beyond the 8" diameter of the Giant Field
Tripod's head surface, I expect that I would likely remove the plate each
time I transport the tripod horizontally in my vehicle.
Peterson's Mounting Assistant is smaller, but only affords room for hanging
the hand controller which I am now able to comfortably rest on the upper leg
spreader of the Giant Field Tripod.
Moreover, as the design of the Giant Field Tripod's 8" Head diameter and
Center Rod assemblies differs from that of the smaller LX200 scopes,
"centering the scope" and "finding the hole" are not problems with the 12"
scope.
For those who are using the ScopeSaver or Peterson's Mounting Assistant, is
it your habit of leaving it fastened when transporting the tripod to and
from viewing locations? And, what have you found to be your usage habits
for eyepieces, filters, barlows, the hand controller, flashlight, and other
items, keep within reach while in the dark?
Also does the use of either the ScopeSaver or Peterson, interfere with
mounting a wedge?
Thanks to all for your comments and replies.
Rob.
