While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Hi all. I am wanting to put a Technical innovations domed observatory on top
of a school concrete roof. Directly below the roof is a stairwell which may
cause vibrations during the day from people walking up & down, but the
building is largely deserted at night.
My dilemma is that the because observatory will be on a school roof, 1500lb
(or 2300lb!) of concrete pier isn't really feasible. I know you can buy
steel piers, but I wonder if a steel pier would be as stable as a tripod, esp
since the tripod legs are pretty nicely 'splayed'. Obviously, using the
tripod, I'd have to somehow clamp the feet in position onto the concrete roof
floor (or raised platform, if I don't put the observatory straight onto the
roof) so they didn't move a millimeter...could anyone give me their thoughts
on the suitability of using the Meade tripod instead of a steel pier?
