Hey Tom,
Most would answer this question with a big "NO"! I've
used both and prefer the Meade 201XT. It's lighter,
cheaper and in my humble opinion, easier to use. My
ST-4 was bought used and possibly that had something
to do with my experiences. The 201 is self-contained.
The ST-4 has a separate control box that I found to be
a pain in the ass. Not only was there another piece of
equipment that I had to locate in the dark but, it
does not retain any of the user set parameters. So
every night I had to re-enter my settings. The Meades
store your settings in permanent memory.
I feel that the 201 is an excellent autoguider if the
user is willing to spend the time to get it properly
set-up.
Check out astromart, both of these will show up once
in a while. ST-4's usually sell for $500-600. 201's
will go for $200-325.
Bottom line for me: I sold my ST-4 and kept the 201
with not a single regret.
Alan
