While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

The same adapter you used on your 8" can fit to the
visual back of your 12" aswell (assuming you still
have it...).

A threaded adapter holds the CCD head much better. You
need any stability you can get to prevent any movment
in the optical train, which will make it difficult( if
not impossible) to take useful flat-fields and other
calibration images.
