Something is wrong.
A Barlow, will degrade an image a _small_ amount (extra lenses), but
normally it is barely discernable if at all.
Worth remembering that the Barlow will also increase all existing errors,
so to see if it is the Barlow, you really need a longer focal length lens
for comparison. If you fit a Barlow to (say) a 25mm lens, and have
something in the order of a 12mm to compare it with, you will get a good
idea of whether it is the Barlow causing the problem, or another optical
problem in the scope being made more obvious by the increased
magnification...
You may simply be trying to magnify more than the scope, combined with the
'seeing', really supports.
Say some more about what scope/eyepiece combination you are using.
Best Wishes
