While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Tom,
That is the smart thing - Don't risk anything until after TSP. Keep
repeating that. I am doing the same myself.

John,

Thanks for the reply. This afternoon I took a look at the plug of the
Microfocuser and saw that it is a miniature stereo, i.e., 3 wire, plug while
the 9v JMI hand control that I have left over from when I had the classic
LX200 is a mono or two wire plug. I gues the next thing I need to do is
measure the voltages from the LX200GPS focus jack and see if, as I expect,
Meade is only using a two wire circuit but for some reason runs it through
the thee wite plug. Since, with the Classic LX200, I could use either the
Meade hand control or JMI's hand control unit to control a focuser, I expect
that the GPS model will work that way also. After I check the voltages out
I'll report back but I think I may be a coward and wait until after I come
back home from the Texas Star Party to risk the scope. ;-)

Tom,
In the "similar but different category"

We used the 9V JMI focuser to run our 1206 Focuser for our LX200 Classic.
Tried to buy just the hand control unit from Meade and they said they could
not break up a set and a whole rash of stuff, called JMI, they popped one in
the mail and it worked fined...actually better than using it through the HC
as when I lifted my finger from the buttons...the JMI "STOPS" moving.

Does anyone know whether it would be safe to use a JMI 9volt focuser
hand control to control the LX200GPS Microfocuser instead of using the
LX200 hand control. If the answer is yes, this would have tha advantage
of not having the focuser wrapping as the scope slews.
