While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Folks,

I am in the process of deciding how to minimize the hassle of switching =
back and forth between visual observing and CCD imaging with our =
telescopes. I teach Astronomy courses and direct research projects for =
students at the College I teach at. The chore of attaching the CCD to =
the telescope, focusing, and then trying to find/identify star fields on =
the CCD has led me to consider a flip mirror system. Theoretically, I =
could leave the camera attached and have "instant" change-over between =
eyepiece and CCD, right? The eyepiece could help in finding and =
centering objects on the camera chip and in composing the photo. In =
addition, if I could make the eyepiece parfocal with the CCD, it would =
streamline the focusing procedure, it seems to me.

My request is for help in making the decision whether or not to go with =
a flip mirror system. Those of you who use one, what are your =
recommendations, suggestions, warnings, etc. Which system should I =
consider? Will a filter wheel be usable with such a system? We have =
CFW8 filter wheels that will be used with ST7's and a ST8 camera on a =
"classic" 8-inch LX200, a 10- inch LX200GPS, and a 16-inch LX200GPS. =20

Any and all comments are welcome, as I have had no experience with the =
flip mirror systems.

Thanks for your input!

Terry
