John you might have hit the proverbial head on the nail!
Could a failure in the RA encoders, or if they were installed back to front
so to speak cause the scope to track in reverse?
Regardless of which hemisphere an Altaz mounted scope is in: if tracking an
object North of Zero East/West line, the Azimuth has to rotate from East to
west, or Anticlockwise. Tracking an object South of that Zero East/West
line, the Azimuth must also track East to West, however it now must rotate
Clockwise.
The crossed wires idea is still in there with a chance I think, but the
encoders might be an issue too.
