While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I'm looking at setting up a DIY dew heater on my 12" LX200 and I am
looking at using frost prevention heat tape (as used to wrap round pipes
to prevent them freezing in cold weather).

The tape I have seen emits power at 26W/m - obviously, I'd make some
kind of switch box to allow the power to be dropped down when required.

Is this about the right level of anti-dew heat to use across a 12" SCT
(26W over the whole plate), and if not, what is the best power output
for a scope of this size?

TIA,

GC
