Here's a three-parter:
1) I mentioned earlier that the guy from Meade told me the 14" SW was
the only one that uses the big T-bolt to fasten the scope base to the
tilt plate. Actually it uses the T-bolt (which is a shorter version of
the one in the tripod leg spreader), plus the 3 smaller bolts. As I've
never seen another superwedge in person, can someone tell me - did I
understand correctly? Are all scopes smaller than 14" held to the tilt
plate only by the 3 small bolts? If so, this seems like it would add
tremendously to the flexure. In this case a good modification to the SW
might be to drill a central hole in the tilt plate, and bolt the base
down using a big T-bolt or hex bolt in addition to the 3 other bolts.
2) A wedge that would go flat might be constructed with the wedge sides
connected to the tilt plate, and tightened at the proper latitude along
the base. Then they wouldn't get in the way of the fork arms.
3) I think the skylight filter is going in my "hard lesson" box too,
except for when it's really dusty or there are lots of bugs.
