While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

I'm using a deep cycle marine battery. It's big. I don't remember the numbers, but I just bought it about 4 months ago, it's charged with a trickle charger all the time, and it runs other things just fine. That is why I tend to think it's the 1812.

Thanks for trying to help!

C.

What type of battery are you using? A small battery could wear out quickly.

The current draw will depend on what the scope is doing at the time. High
speed slewing will draw more current. You can't test current when not under
load. That would be roughly analogous to trying to measure the water
current in a pipe when you've got the faucet shut off.

I don't remember anything that normally needed to be replaced.
I think there was a discussion on Mapug(?) a month or two ago about a chip
in it that would be the first thing in it that would burn out if you
overloaded the 1812. Someone found a supplier but they had a $50 minimum
order, so he bought several and was selling the extras. IIRC, Doc G bought
2 from him, which is why I think it was Mapug.
