Folks,

It's me again. Remember the guy had a 16" LX200 GPS fried by lightning? =
Well, I have received the scope back from Meade and reconstructed it on =
my pier. First light after the repair. . . a message from the control =
paddle telling me that the telescope can not communicate with the =
"auxiliary sensor board". I am instructed by the paddle to bypass this =
and I will be able to use the telescope. I did so. The scope seems to =
work except for the fact that, evidently, the failure to access the =
"sensor board" prohibits the scope from communicating with the GPS, thus =
seemingly turning the scope into a Classic, I need to perform a one or =
two star alignment.

I called Meade and, of course, they want me to ship back the scope. =
Those of you who have done this know that taking apart a 16"-scope, =
packing up, arranging for shipment etc. is NOT the most enjoyable way to =
spend a Saturday. So, I asked to speak to someone else and was sent to =
John Piper. He essentially told me the same thing except that he did =
mention that I could send in the main circuit board, though they did not =
prefer that. They want me to send the base of the scope. . . not as bad =
as sending the entire scope, but I would still have to take the thing =
apart again, go through tweaking the aligning of the pier to the pole =
AGAIN, etc. So, I am going to push for the circuit board idea as a =
first try to correct the difficulty.

My question to you all is: Has anyone ever had this problem before? I =
have not seem mention of "sensor boards" in any of our discussions. If =
you have had this problem, what are the odds that the problem lies in =
the main circuit board. located just behind the panel on the base. This =
is easy to remove and will pose a minimum of inconvenience, other than =
loss of the utilization of the scope, of course.

Any insights would be appreciated. I plan on calling John Piper back =
next week to arrange for my sending in the board. Any thoughts before =
that would be a help.

Thanks one and all.

Clear Skies,

Terry
