William,
The problem seems to be with the GPS communication. I have sent my board
back to Meade. They wanted the entire base unit, but I convinced them to
try this first. The paddle allows you to bypass this error message and use
the telescope. I tried that. It seems to function essentially as a
Classic, i.e. functions seem to work, but it must be one or two-star
aligned. The scope doesn't know where it is because it has not been able to
communicate with the GPS.
I use The Sky software to control the scope. It seems to have worked,
though I only tried moving the scope NSEW, not a "goto". So, I would
anticipate that you will have a "Classic" when you get your RA drive running
again. If replacing the main board does not work for me, I guess I'll have
to send the base back to Meade. This is really annoying.
Good luck to you. If you want to hear from me again, let me know and I'll
inform you when I get my board back.
Terry
