While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Good Morning Blair, Herman & Buck,

Thank you all 3 (and others) for taking time to response with good feed =
back & information. So far I have learned:
1.. that the balance is very critical,=20
2.. it's good for visual but maybe not so good for imaging,=20
3.. its PEC is somewhat suspect,=20
4.. is noisy, least wise compared to the AP's I have heard,=20
5.. guide scope is imperative if you are going to do long term imaging =

6.. and it works ok with programs such as the Sky 5.
7.. may still be refurbished (not sure Meade does this at this age) =20
Have I missed anything?

I would appreciate it Herman if there are any details they provided you =
with on the "refurb" Meade did for you i.e.. what they replaced, =
upgraded, or cleaned up.
Sincerely,
Doug Askew

Doug:

I use the LXD 650 mount and an 8" Schmidt Newtonian along with a guide =
scope and a 416XT for imaging. The mount tracks well but balancing it is =
VERY CRITICAL. If the load is high the balance becomes even more of a =
problem. I can get up to a minute unguided exposures and guiding lets me =
extend that. PEC works well but as you said the mount is noisy.

Blair

Subject: Information on LX 750

Good Morning,
I know this question must be asked many time but I am new to this =
site and have not found anything on Yahoo Groups sites to help with my =
quest for knowledge on this mount.

Right now a friend has lent me his LX750 mount. It has been bolted =
to a pier so all we are waiting for is clear skies & knowledge about =
using it.

I would appreciate any reference sites for this mount, its =
idiosyncrasies or things to be aware of. Also any updates, upgrades or =
sites for information on this mounts and its use would also be =
appreciated along with opinions on using it for imaging.

Thank in advance for any assistance...
Doug Askew
