<DIV dir=3Dltr align=3Dleft><SPAN class=3D261080610-23022005>I'm really =
sorry for the=20
inconvenience of this. We spent several weeks beta testing this new list =
before=20
it went live without any problems. If you;re interested in the gory =
details, it=20
goes like this... When my email server suddenly went from sending a few =
dozen=20
emails per day to a few thousand, my email "smart host" that I was using =
to=20
relay much of my mail didn't like that and stopped accepting my outbound =
mail.=20
This meant that I have to relay mail directly and, because my server is =
on a=20
dynamic IP address, many domains summarily block mail from my server as=20
potential spam. Dynamic IP address =3D spam. Go figure. Anyhow, the new =
ISP will=20
be providing a static IP address which should enable me to avoid that =
problem in=20
the future.</SPAN></DIV>

<DIV dir=3Dltr align=3Dleft><SPAN class=3D261080610-23022005>BTW, if =
there are any=20
email admins reading this list, I hope this will highlight the futility =
of=20
blocking mail from dynamic IPs. At best it is a flawed philosophy and at =
worst=20
it is outright discrimination based on arbitrary criteria. You can't =
tell=20
anything about a mail server by the way its IP address is allocated. Any =
competent spammer will be able to get around that and many small =
businesses are=20
forced to use dynamic IP addresses these days by their ISPs. If I had to =
pay an=20
ISP to provide me with a "smart host" it would cost me over $1500 per =
year for=20
the volume of mail I need to send, which is unacceptable. Obviously, =
operating=20
an SMTP server in my domain will allow me to avoid that charge. =
ISPs know=20
that and that's why they encourage this pointless discrimination, so =
they can=20
continue to charge exorbitant fees for something that really ought to be =
included in the price. (in my humble opinion, of course).</SPAN></DIV>
