While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

When we first got our 12" my wife and I would pick the scope up by the =
handles and carry it from shed to yard WITH THE GIANT TRIPOD ATTACHED! =
One day I took that cover off and saw that little screw and washer there =
and I can tell you that was the last time we carried it all by those =
handles. Another .02c

I have taken apart many LX200 bases and removed the forks. There is a =
single washer and screw holding the whole work together. But that is =
the way it is designed. You can just replace the washer that is there =
and tighten the screw. I have never heard of the base falling off when =
the scope is lifted by the forks. Generally I have had to hammer and =
pound on the base to get the forks off. That would be quite amusing. =
(G) I suppose it could happen if the screw was loose or the washer =
missing.

I have just pulled apart the base from my 12" LX200 to clean the =
gears. There is one allen head screw and a flat washer holding the =
upper fork assembly and the base together.
My question is towards Doc G. or John M., is the flat washer flat or =
is it concave in the center. Mine looks like it has been pulled down by =
the allen head screw, and I don't know if I should replace it with a new =
flat (flat) washer or leave the concave one in ? Thanks, Roy
